Francesco Villa is a photographer and designer.
He holds a MA in Design at Politechnic University of Milan and a MA in Photography at IUAV University of Venice.
After some collective shows (MuFoCo, 2013 and Fondazione Fabbri, 2017), Francesco has his first solo show titled Carene at Marsèl Paradise (Milan, 2018). His works have been also exhibited at DieciXDieci (Gonzaga, 2019), Grenze Arsenali (Verona, 2020), and Photo Marseille (Marseille, 2023).
In 2019 he founds Altana together with Francesco Paleari and Elia Pinna, as a collective space for photography and self-publishing. With Altana Francesco publishes three books (Carene, Loreto, →), sets up a collective exhibition titled A place to enjoy the view at Brace Brace (2019) and creates a site-specific installation for Arte Passante (2021). During years Altana takes part to different photo and publishing fairs such as Temple Books (Arles), Fiebre (Madrid), Sprint (Milan), Volume (Zurich), Athens Art Book Fair and Vienna Art Book Fair. A selection of books is showcased at Art books in Italy in Beijng for ABC Art Fair 2021.
His photography is conceived as a device to investigate and represent the complexity of the contemporary, thus his projects become open questions to the viewer for a collective speculation of the present time.
He works and live in Milan.
